Pathways Early Education Center of Immokalee’s goal is to give children the best possible start in life through education, literacy and school readiness programs. While our primary mission is to educate the students, as partners in the community, we also strive to support our parents in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
As the longest running childcare and education center in Immokalee, Pathways has established deep roots with our community partners. Since 1962, we have helped shape the face of childcare and early education by consistently improving our services to advance the children that pass through our doors.
Pathways is a nationally accredited early education center through The National Accreditation Commission (NAC) for Early Care and Education Programs. As a partner in success, we have also made a commitment to provide our dedicated teachers with continuing education opportunities in the classroom as well as through professional development grants. Many of our teachers have also had children and grandchildren pass through Pathways doors.
Our board members have been touched by the programs and services that Pathways offers, which has united them in their passion to give our children the gift of literacy to achieve more in their lifetime. They offer their time, talent and resources to ensure that Pathways’ remains a vital resource for the Immokalee community.
Pathways operates year-round to serve the families of Immokalee, most living at or below poverty levels. The center welcomes children at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast to ensure they are ready to learn. During the day, our children are provided with two nutritious meals and an afternoon snack to ensure they have the energy to learn, play, and be children.
Extended care is available for the children, but what they experience at Pathways is much more than “babysitting”. Our children are actively engaged in age-appropriate learning opportunities, exposing them to more language and technology, building their social skills, and establishing a powerful base of self-esteem for a successful future.
The true cost of the year-round childcare provided by Pathways is $14,000 per child, but the majority of families pay less than 50% of this fee because they simply can’t afford it. This is why we rely heavily on our community of donors and sponsors. Your generous contributions ensure that we continue to give children the best possible start in life through education, literacy and school readiness programs.
Pathways is currently serving over 100 children, ranging from one month to five years of age (our maximum number is 107). Our long-term commitment to our children is to eliminate the gap in their delayed language and developmental areas that they arrive to us with. Pathways’ builds their academic & social emotional areas of learning while nurturing a compassionate, self–confident engaged learners. Our goal is to have a minimum of 85% of the children entering kindergarten scoring in the highest percentile showing kindergarten readiness in the state of Florida. Without Pathways these children and their families would not be prepared for their start of their educational career and success for a changed future.
Our educational philosophy includes a three-fold approach that educates the children, provides professional development for staff and offers support for families through parent involvement opportunities.
As children are brought into Pathways Early Education Center, their special skills and abilities are assessed to provide them with a rigorous and customized curriculum designed to best meet their needs. Our teachers share their evaluations with the parents and work together to set age-appropriate goals for learning and developing social skills for home and school. This collaboration allows us to provide the best opportunity for success for each child.
